Betty Spagetti hot dogs

My little girl was turning 8 and she decided on a "sleep over party" so the food had to be fun too. She loves Betty spagetti dolls so we decided to use a little imagination to make an edible "Betty spagetti"

We used spagetti and frankfurters they are best because they do not split easily when cooked . Each child carefully made their little dolls with pre-cut sausage for the head, body, arms and legs. Some became really creative and added hair. It was great fun for everyone.

  We cooked them in pots of water two at a time (otherwise they will get all tangled)
We then put them into ordinary hot dog rolls and they were ready for the next step

Then for the finishing touches some tomatoe sauce or mustard

Finally "YUMMY" they were all ready to eat

Superman and friends

Ideas:
  • Pick n Pay (South Africa) have a variety of themed yoghurts that can be added to the party table for a slightly healthier snack option.
  • "Kryptonite" was made using Green Jelly - the birthday boy loved making this for his friends.

Incredibles Party

For my Sons 4th birthday he wanted an Incredibles birthday party, and this year we decided to have his party at his play-school. I made his invitation using my trusty computer. The wording was… Dear Incredible (child’s name), You are invited to an Incredible party at my Incredible school!!

The cake was an ordinary sponge cake, and the Incredibles family picture was printed onto rice-paper.

The boxes were filled with a few goodies to eat and an apple juice each. To make the Party boxes, we had pasted pictures of Elastagirl on them and cut off her feet. We then punched holes where her feet should be on the box (see pic) and threaded stockings through the holes to make longer stretchy legs. The "legs" were then stretched around the box and tied. The feet we had cut off were then pasted on the end of the stockings. It Looked very cute and the kids had fun trying to untangle her legs!

After most of the contents of the party boxes were devoured, the children met the Villan’s big bad robot in the form of a Piñata!!
Making a piñata is time-consuming but lots of fun especially if the kids help! To make your own piñata: Inflate a balloon and attach a rope to it. Paper Mache the balloon, and remember to make it nice and strong at the top where the rope and balloon are attached together. You will add the sweets later, so leave a small area open at the side or near the bottom for first. When totally dry, pop the balloon and then add the sweets, use individually wrapped sweets to fill the piñata especially if you are still going to paint it. Paper Mache the open section closed and leave to dry. Once completely dry – paint and decorate it.

Spiders

Another fun & easy - No Bake recipe!

You will need:

* Pipe Cleaners ( you can get these at cigarette counters )
* Coco Pops
* Smarties
* Icing sugar & water mixed together for gluing the eyes onto the spider.
* Cocoa mixed with thick "water-icing".

Combine the Cocoa mixture with the Coco Pops. Mould into a roundish shape and then place in a muffin pan. “Glue” on smartie eyes with your icing mixture. Keep your spiders in the fridge to keep their shape and add the pipe cleaner legs before the guests arrive. Remember Spiders have 8 legs, so leave enough time to give them legs.

Let your little guests decorate their own animal cookies!
Using a basic sugar cookie recipe, roll out the cookie dough.
Cut shapes using animal cookie cutters.
Bake according to recipe instructions.
Add different colours of food colouring to bowls of glacé icing and create an array of animal colours.
Lay the cookies and bowls of icing, sprinkles, and other creative toppings /cake decorations on the table.
